MAPIA’s Seminar & Business Meeting 9/30/2020 Recap

On September 30, 2020 MAPIA’s Seminar & Business Meeting was held virtually for the first time via Zoom webinar.  Paid members earned 4 continuing education credits by participating in the informative courses led by Brian Goodman, Esq. of Goodman & Donohue, and Paul Mahoney (Mahoney & Associates) & Andrew Williams, P.E. (GAI Engineers).

Our morning session was sponsored by Rice Corporation, with Brian Rice presenting.  Then Brian Goodman taught our public adjusters how to protect themselves from becoming the subject of a fraud/negligent misrepresentation claim and Consumer Protection Act claim, as well as what to do if such a claim is filed.  He explored the current trending topic in an interactive format through the dissection of multiple fraud complaints filed against public adjusters.

Our afternoon course was sponsored by Board Up Kingz, with Tyler Pelli presenting. Then Paul Mahoney and Andrew Williams provided a behind-the-scenes look at the role of the investigator, and described current methods used in investigating, lab work, report writing, and litigation issues.  The ways that public adjusters and their clients can help in the process was a common thread throughout the discussion.

MAPIA President Tim Ball announced the members of the current committees, and he proposed that the MAPIA officers & board of directors remain in place for another year.  The majority of webinar participants concurred.

MAPIA Executive Director Seth Hochbaum gave our members an update on UPPA, and the contacts available to help public adjusters with related issues at the Division of Insurance.  He also spoke on lawsuits he is currently reviewing that are connected to COVID-19 and Business Interruption.
